The Second Coming of Christ
1) Jesus Christ is coming again. Acts 1:1-11, John 14:1-3, James 5:8
a) There is only one future coming of Christ. It is the second and final coming.
Hebrews 9:28

2) How will Christ come?
a) Visibly

i) Acts 1:11"...shall so come in like manner as ye have seen him go into heaven." The saved and unsaved shall see Christ when He comes.

ii) Revelation 1:5-7 The unsaved shall be suprised and caught unawares. The day of offered mercy will be over. Christ is not coming back visibly to some and invisibly to others. There will be no secret "rapture" of the Church.

b) Audibly

i) I Thesalonians 4:13-18 "...with a shout, with the voice, with the trump of God. Everyeye shall see him and every ear shall hear him. There will be no secret "rapture" of the saved in which the unsaved know nothing about it. In this scripture, Paul is dealing with brethren only. (verse 1 and verse 18) The fate of the unsaved is of no consideration in this scripture.

c) Christ is not setting one foot down on this earth at His second coming.  (verse 17) The future home of the saved is in heaven with the Lord not on earth for any length of time after Christ's Second Coming.

3) What will happen at Jesus' appearing?

a) The general resurrection of all the dead (both saved and unsaved) will take place. John 5:28-29 All that are in the graves shall hear His voice. Acts 24:15 There is only one general resurrection of the just and unjust. There is no period of time between the resurrection of the saved and unsaved.

i) Revelation 20:5,6 This "first" resurrection is a spiritual resurrection (being raised from the spiritually dead state of sin to a new life in Christ by being born again or saved.  John 5:23-25 There are but two resurrections. Spiritual and literal.
John 11:24-26

ii) The general resurrection takes place at the last day.
John 11:24 When Jesus comes it will be the last day, time will be no more. We will be ushered into eternity.

b) The kingdon (Church) will be delivered up to God
I Corinthians 15:24-26 Christ set up His kingdom and built his Church at His first coming. He will deliver it up to God at His Second Coming. There will be no reason for Christ to set up an earthly kingdom at His Second Coming. There will be no time or place to set it up.

c) There will be a final, general judgment. At Jesus coming HE will judge the saved and the unsaved. Matthew 25:31-46 The instant of Christ's coming will eternally fix the fate of all men.

i) At this time every man shall receive his reward.
Revelation 22:12, Matthew 16:27.

ii) II Thessalonians 1:7-10 The wicked shall be punished with everlasting destruction. There will be no other opportunity for the unsaved to be saved. The day of offered mercy will be over. Matthew 25:41

iii) The saved will enter heaven. Matthew 25:34 So shall they ever be with the lord.
I Thessalonians 4:17

d) The heavens andearth (this earth) will pass away. Christ placed the end of the world at the time of His Second Coming. Matthew 24:35-37 His disciples associated the end of the world with Christ's Second Coming. Matthew 24:3

i) The earth shall be burned up (totally, completely).
II Peter 3:10 It shall be dissolved, terminated, ad disintegrated (verse 11-12).

ii) We look for new heavens and a new earth (a new world). John 14:1-3 The new world without end is heaven, the eternal Home of the redeemed. I Peter 1:4
We shall meet the Lord in the air and so shall we ever be with the Lord in heaven.
I Thessalonians 4:17

4) Most of the world will be caught unawares in a life of sin.
I THessalonians 5:1-4

5) The saved are looking forward to Christ's Second Coming.
Titus 2:13
